After an enjoyable but ultimately unfulfilling career as an Art Director, Los Angeles based creator Emily McDowell started her own card line in 2011, selling to customers directly on Etsy. In 2012 she created a Valentine Card that went instantly viral, and after selling 1700 cards in a week, realized she had found her calling. She wanted to create cards that spoke on how we really feel about life events, love and even sorrow.

In 2015 she launched a line of Sympathy Cards, in answer to her own experiences with cancer and the awkward and inappropriate messages that currently existed in the greeting card world. She wanted to say the things she wanted to hear when she was ill, to communicate authentic but good humored sentiments, and offer comfort that was genuine.

Emily's line of cards has a very distinct style that is instantly recognizable, merging her love of typography and design. She has messages that are modern and sometimes brutally honest, from gently amusing to very funny. Her business has grown by leaps and bounds over the past decade, and now includes textiles, mugs, stationery, pins, magnets and more.

At Branches we carry a full line of Emily's cards in a multitude of categories, including her Empathy Card line. Come peruse our selection and find something that reflects what you really want to say!
